St. John’s, NL: The Newfoundland Rogues returned to winning ways on Saturday defeating the Pontiac Pharaohs 132-106 at the Mary Brown’s Centre. With the win, the Rogues improve to a 9-4 overall record. This was the second meeting between the two teams as the Pharaohs handed the Rogues their first loss of the season in Pontiac, MI this past November.
After dropping back-to-back games against the London Lightning last weekend, the Rogues needed a big response which they got and then some. After a close first quarter of action, The Rogues took off in the second quarter dominating proceedings for the rest of the game. It was a complete team effort for the home side who were led by Dedric Boyd’s 24 points. This contest also saw Zaahir Woody (F) and Amir Yusuf (C) pick up their first double-doubles of the season. Early BSL MVP candidate James Towns’ 22 points led the Pharaohs in scoring with 20 of those coming in the opening two quarters.
The Rogues will have to do it all again less than 24 hours later as these two teams go at it once more on Sunday afternoon. Tip-Off at 4PM.
