St. John’s, NL: The Newfoundland Rogues live to fight another day, defeating the Windsor Express 115-109 at the Mary Brown’s Centre on Friday night. This win keeps the Rogues in contention for the sixth and final Basketball Super League playoff spot while the Express fall to second place after the loss. After the match, an ugly brawl ensued which spilled into the crowd and saw every member of the Rogues and Express involved to some degree.
Coming into the final series of the season, the Rogues needed to win two games in as many nights to secure their playoff spot. After an incredibly even first half of action, things really picked up in the third quarter for the Rogues. The Express fought back hard in the fourth quarter before ultimately succumbing to an incredible David Jasson (G) four-point play with thirty seconds left on the clock. But right as the game ended, that’s where the real action started. A conventional trash talk session quickly turned into a full on brawl which many are describing as “Malice at the Mary”. Both the Rogues and Express will consider themselves lucky nobody on their team or in the crowd picked up any serious injuries during the scuffle which bled into the courtside seats. Cooler heads prevailed in the end with both teams returning to their respective locker rooms. David Jasson (G) and Tarkus Ferguson (G) led the way for the Rogues with 29 and 28 points respectively while the Express were led by MVP candidate Latin Davis’ 26 point double-double.
It all comes down to a Saturday night tilt at the Mary Brown’s Centre. The Newfoundland Rogues and Windsor Express will do battle in the final game of the year with the home side’s entire 2024/25 BSL season on the line. Tip-Off on Saturday, March 29th at the Mary Brown’s Centre is scheduled for 7:00PM NDT
