St. John’s, NL: In what many around the Basketball Super League (BSL) are calling “Game of the Year”, the Newfoundland Rogues defeated the Sudbury Five 114-110. The win moves the Rogues ahead of the Five in the BSL standings as they improved to a 6-1 record on the season.
After a close first half of action, the Five dominated the third quarter and looked poised to continue their dominance in the fourth. However, a string of key missteps allowed the Rogues to take advantage and tie the game. To the delight of the home crowd, Rogues guard Rashad Smith would get fouled shooting a three with 18 seconds remaining. Smith sank all three shots which would be enough to see the Rogues pick up their most important win of the season so far against a very strong Five team.
After the final horn, a scuffle emerged involving multiple players and staff members on both teams. This all sets up for tomorrow night when the Rogues and Five go at it once again at the Mary Brown’s Centre. Tip-off at 7:00PM.
