Rogues drop home heartbreaker against Lightning

St. John’s, NL: The Newfoundland Rogues lost a thriller 112-107 to the London Lightning on Saturday. With the result, The Rogues fall to fourth while the defending Basketball Super League (BSL) champions Lightning move into third place.

In a highly anticipated “Battle of the Coaches” featuring familiar faces, the Rogues held a narrow lead for the majority of the game. A late charge from the Lightning led to an electrifying ending which saw the Rogues just fall short of victory. The Rogues were led in scoring by Dedric Boyd (G) and a debuting Amir Yusef (C) with 29 and 17 points respectively. Former Rogues duo Corey Boyd (F) and Tonzell Handy (F) played a key role along with Chris Jones’ (G) 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 12 assists. Both sides finished down a player with Billy White’s ejection and Amanze Ngumezi fouling out. The Rogues sit at an overall record of 8-3 while the Lightning improve to 6-4 against BSL opposition.

The Rogues and Lightning will go at it again Saturday night for the final time at the Mary Brown’s Centre this season. Tip-off at 7PM.
