Jamestown, NY: The Newfoundland Rogues defeated the Jamestown Jackals 95-91 on Sunday evening. This victory marks the first set of back-to-back BSL road wins in franchise history for the Rogues who keep their playoff hopes alive.
Sunday’s final road match is the only time the Rogues traveled to Jamestown this season. Having split the first two matches of the year in February, both sides were expectedly evenly matched through the first three quarters of this one. The Rogues managed to kick it into another gear during the fourth and take the lead in a must-win scenario. A late scare by the home side proved just short as the Rogues secured a 2-1 season-series win over the fourth-placed Jackals. The Rogues saw double-double performances from star forwards Tarkus Ferguson (22 points, 15 rebounds), and Jakorie Smith (32 points, 10 rebounds) while the Jackals were led by guard Derrick Colter’s 22 points.
The Rogues now travel home for their final series of the season; a two game tilt against the Windsor Express. The seventh-placed Rogues squad will have to win on both March 28th and March 29th to stay within reach of the sixth-placed playoff spot. Friday, March 28th’s Tip-Off is set for 7:00PM at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
