Rogues drop second straight home series versus Five

St. John’s, NL – The Newfoundland Rogues lost their second home game in as many nights against the Sudbury Five 105-100 on Valentine’s Day. Saturday marked the Rogues fourth straight defeat under new head coach Doug Partridge to start the year.

Fans at the Mary Brown’s Centre saw a fantastic, nail-biter of a game with the Rogues even picking up the lead right before halftime; going into the break with all the momentum. The defending Basketball Super League champions Sudbury Five weren’t going to roll over easy however, responding with a lights-out third quarter. Trading buckets back-and-forth during the final frame, it was the Five who ended up just squeaking out a narrow victory completing the two-game series sweep over the home side Rogues. The Five were led in scoring by Charlie Marquardt (G) who notched a game-high 35 points while Rogues star guard Dedric Boyd led all Rogues in scoring yet again with 26 points.
The Rogues have little time to prepare before departing on their first road trip of the season. The road excursion starts in Lake Erie on February 16th, playing ten road games before returning to the Mary Brown’s Centre on March 11th to take on Saint John.
