Rogues erase 25-point deficit to beat Tide

St. John’s, NL – The Newfoundland Rogues picked up a crucial 94-92 victory over the Tri-City Tide on Sunday at the Mary Brown’s Centre. This win sees the Rogues improve to 8-6 on the season, good for second in The Basketball League’s Atlantic Division while the Tide remain in first. It couldn’t have started much worse for the home side as the Tide led by as many as 25 points in the first quarter of the game. The Rogues would slowly chip away at the lead until the fourth quarter where a calamitous Tide defence and relentless Rogues offence combined to blow the game wide open. Trading leads throughout the final frame; two Dedric Boyd free throws proved to be the final shots for a Rogues side desperate to avoid the series sweep. The Tide were led in scoring by Kendall Latney’s 27 points while the Rogues were once again led by a 34 point performance from Dedric Boyd. The Rogues will have to keep their celebrations short and get back to the drawing board as they return to the Mary Brown’s Centre on April 15th to take on the Port City Power.
