Rogues Romp over Stingers, 154-123
For Immediate Release
ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Newfoundland Rogues delivered a dominant win over the Fayetteville Stingers on Wednesday night at Mary Brown’s Centre, racing to a 154 – 123 win.
As usual, Armani Chaney looked every bit the All-Star. He stuffed the box score with 33 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Sharpshooter Jacorie Archie chipped in with 28 points, including 6 of 8 from three point land, and a couple of thunderous dunks. Jose Roman-Angueira led the Stingers with 28 points.
Otherwise, it was a night of debuts for the Rogues. Tonzell Handy rejoined the Rogues after recovering from an injury, racing all over the floor and crashing his way to a near triple-double with 14 points, 9 assists, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. Bryant Johnson (Givens) made his Rogues debut scoring 16 points and playing aggressive defence. The 6′ 0″ guard surprised everyone when he exploded for an emphatic slam dunk late in the game. Perhaps most notable, local hero Daniel Foo also made his Rogues debut and hit the court.
The Rogues and Stingers continue their three-game set at the Mary Brown’s Centre on Friday and Saturday evening.
Tyrone Young has left the team to rehabilitate an upper body injury. The Rogues signed guards Bryant Johnson (Givens) and Daniel Foo this week.
